We told the kids we were expecting Saturday morning. We were planning on telling our parents over the weekend, and figured we should inform the kids first.
Ella promptly wanted to know if there were two babies in my tummy.
"No," I reassured her. "It's very unlikely that there are two babies in my tummy."
"But there could be," she countered.
"Yes," I admitted. "It's possible. But very, very unlikely."
Unconvinced, she continued to assert that there could be two babies in my tummy, and Tuesday morning she drew this picture.
Followed my this one.
And this one.
And we just laughed, because, really? I'm not having twins. They don't run in my family. It's just not going to happen.
Tuesday (shortly after the picture drawing,) I had an ultrasound to verify the due date, etc. and make sure everything looked good. As the tech was getting set up, I jokingly said, "My daughter is convinced there are two babies in my tummy, so if you could just reassure me that there's just one, that would be great."
Totally straight-faced, she replied, "It's twins."
I looked from her face, to the screen, and back to her face. "Are you joking?"
"Nope, it's twins," she reaffirmed.
I guess we should have listened.
And for those curious ones, I'm due November 10th.
