She called it.

We told the kids we were expecting Saturday morning.  We were planning on telling our parents over the weekend, and figured we should inform the kids first.

Ella promptly wanted to know if there were two babies in my tummy.

"No," I reassured her.  "It's very unlikely that there are two babies in my tummy."

"But there could be," she countered.

"Yes," I admitted.  "It's possible.  But very, very unlikely."

Unconvinced, she continued to assert that there could be two babies in my tummy, and Tuesday morning she drew this picture.

Followed my this one.

And this one.

And we just laughed, because, really?  I'm not having twins.  They don't run in my family.  It's just not going to happen.

Tuesday (shortly after the picture drawing,) I had an ultrasound to verify the due date, etc. and make sure everything looked good.  As the tech was getting set up, I jokingly said, "My daughter is convinced there are two babies in my tummy, so if you could just reassure me that there's just one, that would be great."

Totally straight-faced, she replied, "It's twins."

I looked from her face, to the screen, and back to her face.  "Are you joking?"

"Nope, it's twins," she reaffirmed.

I guess we should have listened.

And for those curious ones, I'm due November 10th.

That's Awesome Janelle!! Rebekah told me when she came over with the young women for mutual last night. I just couldn't believe it. From what I see of the ultrasound, it looks like they may be identical. Let me know if you have any questions...that's my life currently. :) You're the best Mom, and I know that you'll do wonderfully!!!

Wahoo! I was so excited for play group today because I've been checking your blog obsessively ever since your post yesterday--the weight gain mentioned was the exact amount recommended for twins, then someone else said something about twins. You are just like Laura Mitchell with her 3 then twins. You are going to do a great job and I can't wait to help out when they arrive. And go Ella! Talk about cool. . . and that's even cooler that you have the pictures to prove her awesomeness. Oh wow, I'm so excited. Now I'm going to stop typing.

WHOA! Congrats! You should have them November 8th and name them Linda and Lisa. I'm sure you'll have them earlier than that though, being twins and all. Yikes! Twins!

This is such a great story. I am convinced that children "know" things. Did you ever see my post about Mason and him talking about his brothers and sisters who ahve yet to come to our family?

http://andthisisourstory.blogspot.com/2009/11/sometimes-i-wonder-if-mason-knows.html

Anyways... I am really excited for you all. I'm sure there will be challenges but the blessings and joys will be more abundant. You are going to do great!!!

Oh and before I got pregnant, Chad had a very vivid dream that I was having twins. A boy and girl. Maybe he was actually dreaming about you! :)

Ho-ly cow!!! Usually I'm not a fan of over-punctuation, but this deserves multiple exclamation points!! Awesome. I want to know how you feel about this.

OK, that link probably won't work. It was a post back in November. Basically Mason just kept bringing up how he wanted his brothers and sisters right now. He always said that there are four more waiting to come to our family. He would sometimes get emotional when talking about it and it always threw me for a loop.

I truly believe children are closer to the veil and the spirit.

So, is that a tear in mommy's eye when the twins are about 5 years old?

Holy cow! I keep telling Kevin that I only imagine our next time being pregnant being twins! I am so glad that it is you and not me, although, I am not pregnant, so I can't say for sure that it isn't me! You are going to do great and now you know why your kids are so independent! Now you will have plenty of time to take care of your two little ones! Congrats!

Julie called me as soon as she heard. CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is so exciting. You couldn't just tie me, you had to go ahead and beat me with one pregnancy. That is seriously so nuts! One of my friends here had 6 under 6 because she had a surprise 5th pregnancy (she thought she was done at 4) and it turned out to be twins. I'm so excited for you and deathly scared for you all at the same time. You'll be awesome with them!!

Janelle! I haven't read the blog in ages...so sorry I'm late, but...CONGRATULATIONS!! Wow, I'm simultaneously cringing (sorry, I'm obviously not yet far enough removed from pregnancy and childbirth) and jealous (a two for one deal, YES!!). What a wonderful experience this will be, and I'm sure you'll have many more awesome stories to tell, just like this one!
